College Prep BiologyThis course is an alternative to General Biology and is geared toward college-bound students. It will be considerably more rigorous than General
Biology and will cover many of the same topics but in greater detail and at a faster pace. Areas of study include nature of science, the chemistry of life, the cell, heredity, evolution and biological diversity, behavior, and an overview of bacteria, fungi, protests, plants and animals. Human biology, with an emphasis on the nervous system, will also be introduced. Laboratory work will include dissection of frogs, genetic crosses with fruit flies, separation of plant pigments by paper chromatography,study of bacteria and work with microscopes. Successful completion of either General Biology or College Prep Biology is required for graduation from MCC. |
